Notes Jesus of Nazareth Roman power spread to Judea; home of the Jews around 63 B.C. 6 A.D. Rome seized control of the Jewish kingdom and made it a province of the empire. Biblical tradition told of a Messiah that would come to restore and save the Jews. Jews believed that they would be saved by this Messiah. Sometime around 6 and 4 B.C., Jesus; a Jew, was born into the town of Bethlehem in Judea. Raised in Nazareth in northern Palestine, he was baptized under John the Baptist. Jesus began his public ministry at the age of thirty. He worked, taught, preached, and performed miracles upon the people. Most of what is known about Jesus can be found in the gospels in the Bible. Because Jesus was not about the fame and the glory, he was known by many people. He did not want to be rich or have a high status which the poor liked.
